Adell & Hancock Fund Scholarship Guidelines
The purpose of the Adell &
Hancock Fund is to provide supplemental support to U.S. and international
students who are in need of additional funds to carry out their international
educational plans for either the summer or fall 2009 semester/term. The
amount awarded will depend on individual need as determined by IIE/RMRC
scholarship committee to not exceed $2,400 per candidate. IIE will award
two grants in 2009. The award is a one-time cash grant.
Eligibility
Criteria • The applicant must be an international
student currently studying at a U.S. university or U.S. student engaging in a
study abroad program during the next academic year. •
Applicants should demonstrate commitment to serious study abroad as a complement
to academic and career goals. Evidence of this commitment should be
presented in the “Statement of Purpose” supplement section of the
application.
• The applicant must be currently enrolled in a degree
program at one of IIE’s U.S. Educational Associate institutions of higher
learning in the Rocky Mountain region (click here to view map of Rocky Mountain
region) at the time of application. A list of IIE educational associate
institutions can be found at: http://iienetwork.org/?p=27452. Please verify your eligibility before applying using the
links above. • At-large students are not eligible for this
scholarship. At large students are those not in the IIE Association
network or students not enrolled in a degree-seeking program.
For U.S. Students
Only • By the start date of the study abroad program,
U.S. students should have completed two years of language study in the language
of the chosen country or be able to demonstrate an intermediate level of
proficiency by having tested out of the foreign language requirement.

application.)
Supplementary
Requirements In addition to completing the IIE/RMRC 2009
Scholarship Application, scholarship candidates must submit the following:
• Statement of Purpose: Why do you want to
study abroad? What are your academic and career goals for studying abroad and
how do they compare to the mission and goals mentioned above? How will the Adell
& Hancock Fund help you meet your academic, professional, and personal
goals? How will you apply what you learn upon returning to your home institution
and in your career?
• Study Abroad Program Description:
Describe your proposed course of study, including formal courses in language, if
applicable, and other subjects. You should specifically list the number of hours
of classroom language study per week during your study abroad program. Describe
any regional cultural activities that are integrated into your study abroad
program. Explain why you have selected this particular study abroad experience,
and explain how this program relates to your academic and career goals. Explain
why you chose this particular country to pursue this program of study. List any
administrative support available to you in your proposed program (e.g.,
facilities, resident director, housing, etc.).

Please request an official, cumulative transcript be sent to the address
below.
• Please include a copy of your resumé.
• The
postmarked deadline for returning the completed application form, letters of
reference and transcript is March 2, 2009. Incomplete applications will
not be accepted.
• Upon completion of the study program, the grant
recipient will be required to submit a brief two page report of his/her
accomplishments indicating how the IIE grant was used and to what
benefit.
